Case Study: Governance

Governance

Client B was a successful payments business formed over ten years previous offering an e-commerce payment gateway and various alternative payment methods to the marketplace including point of sale devices. Client B had a global footprint with satellite offices throughout Europe and Asia with headquarters in the U.K. The business was profitable with a sustainable client base which had grown, not significantly but exponentially over the ten year period with quite a complex company structure.

Quadropay was engaged to stimulate growth and essentially make the business more profitable. Quadropay has significant experience in large corporates and how such businesses operate. The team ‘parachuted in’ and spent time working not only the CEO but all of the operational teams who were essentially the ‘lifeblood’ of the company. Post ‘parachuting in’ we found the company had no real corporate governance, the company was basically ‘free styling’ with very little control over its strategic direction and was an embodiment of its owner – a creative, free spirited entrepreneur with a keen interest in innovative technology based payment products.

The challenge for the terms was not to completely lose the traits of its owner but to embrace technology and innovation in a controlled productive manner.

The team transformed the business by implementing and championing change with the help of its lifeblood (the operational teams) and rubber stamp from its owner and go to person. The Quadropay consultants managed by both example and evidence in the day to day running of the business to gain ‘buy in’ across the organisation. The focus on Client B’s product, process, people and channel was relentless and the implementation of change started at the top with a strategic plan for growth being executed and followed up with the appropriate professionally managed governance structure which included an overarching layer of project management.

Two years later the team still checks in on progress and although the original plan has changed dramatically the business has grown significantly in terms of the number of clients, profitability with  a simpler corporate structure and yet has fewer employees! A great success for the consultancy arm of the business.
